EMPORIA, Kan. – Missouri S&T's women's cross country team finished seventh Friday night at the Emporia State/Planet Sub Invitational, while the Miners won the team competition in their race with a finisher in the top four overall.
The Lady Miners were headed by senior Samantha Schussele, who came in 33
rd place overall with a time of 19:35.19. She finished just ahead of teammate
Lisa Barrett (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest), who crossed the line in 19:35.72 to take 34th.
Lisa Lake (Sapulpa, Okla./Sapulpa) finished in 43
rd place with a mark of 19:42.82, while
Colleen Conrad (Mogadore, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary's ) came in 45th in 19:48.53 and
Mindy Lake (Sapulpa, Okla./Sapulpa) was the fifth Lady Miner to cross the finish line in a time of 20:06.27.
Northwest Missouri State won the women's competition with a score of 56 points.
S&T's men's team came away victorious Friday night as freshman Wynn McClellan was the Miners' top runner in the race and first among the NCAA performers in the race. McClellan came in fourth place overall, posting a time of 25:17.45 that was just nine seconds off the winning mark of 25:08.62 recorded by Kansas Wesleyan's Nathan Mesta.
David Huskisson came in 16th place overall with a time of 25:58.31, while Eric Fairbairn was 19th with a mark of 26:01.24. The Miners' top five was rounded out by Allen Ernst, who was 33rd in 26:19.77 and Grant Brown, who came in 35th place in 26:21.10.
The Miners finished with a team score of 75 points, 20 points ahead of host Emporia State.
Missouri S&T's next competition will take place Oct. 16 when it takes part in the Chile Pepper Festival at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
