JOPLIN, Mo. -- Heavy rain that settled in around Joplin Saturday morning led to the cancellation of the Southern Stampede cross country meet that Missouri S&T's squads were scheduled to compete in.  Nearly three inches of rain fell in the area to force the first-ever cancellation of the annual event.

Missouri S&T's next competition is scheduled to take place Oct. 1 when the teams will take part in the Cowboy Jamboree at Oklahoma State University.
