S&T cross country teams finish season at NCAA regional

KENOSHA, Wis. – Missouri S&T's cross country teams finished their season Saturday at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, with the Lady Miners finishing in 22nd place in the team competition.

Alyson Smith (Scott Air Force Base, Ill./Mascoutah), who earned all-conference honors at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships two weekends ago, was the Lady Miners' top finisher Saturday as she came in 57th place in the six-kilometer race in a time of 22:54.

Rachel Feist (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks) finished with a time of 24:54, while Mindy Lake (Sapulpa, Okla./Sapulpa) ran a 24:40 and Lisa Lake (Sapulpa, Okla./Sapulpa) finished in 25:25.  Allie Wood (West Des Moines, Iowa/Valley) was the Lady Miners' fifth runner across the finish line in 25:30.

Grand Valley State had the individual winner in Allyson Winchester, who posted a time of 20:57, to help the Lakers win the team title with 45 points.  Three schools from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference captured the top three spots in the team standings before the top GLVC school, Southern Indiana, who finished fourth overall.

The men's team had two competitors in the men's 10-kilometer race in Aaron Viets, who finished 72nd overall in 32:44 and Daniel Deposki, who came in 83rd place with a time of 33:03.

Grand Valley State also won the men's competition over Ashland and Ferris State.  Southern Indiana was the top GLVC finisher in a tie for fourth place.  Cedarville's Matt Brooker won the individual title in 30:35.
