Meet Results

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Missouri S&T finished second in a triangular meet Friday at the University of California-San Diego, finishing behind the fifth-ranked Tritons and ahead of Incarnate Word as four individuals and a relay team had winning performances on the afternoon.

The 800-yard freestyle relay team finished the meet by winning that race, as Andrew Schranck (Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic), Aljaz Kerc (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Gimnazija Bezigrad), Matt Zieger (St. Joseph, Mo./Central) and Keith Sponsler (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln East) posted a 16-second win in a time of 7:08.82.

S&T got its individual event victories from Danylo Mykhailov (Khankiv, Ukraine/Sport Collegue N.S.), Schranck, Jacob Dole (Corbin, Ky./Country Day School)  and Ethan Goldfarb (Arlington, Texas/The Oakridge School) on Friday.  Schranck won the 100-yard butterfly in 51.03 seconds, while Mykhailov captured the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 21.46 seconds. 

Dole recorded his win in the freestyle competition by winning the 100-free in 46.94 seconds and tied for second in the 50-yard event in 21.55; the trio of winners also swam three of the legs of the Miners' second place performance in the 400-yard medley relay.

Goldfarb's victory came in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:11.43, a 10-second win over Incarnate Word's Daniel Torres.

The medley relay team of Schranck, Kerc, Mykhailov and Dole finished second in that event in a time of 3:29.31.  Schranck also had a second place finish on an individual basis in the 200-yard butterfly with a mark of 1:55.81 as did Goldfarb in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:08.52.

Kerc was also fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.24 and the 200-breaststroke in 2:11.60, while Alfredo Martinez (Mexico City, Mexico/Instituto Cumbres San Javier) recorded a fourth place showing in the 500-freestyle in 4:48.53.

Sasha Stadnik (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley West) placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.25, just ahead of teammate Luke Norris (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands)' time of 1:48.03 and Mykhailov had a fifth in the 100-butterfly with a time of 53.46 seconds as did Ryan Layne (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:27.33.

The Miners will compete again Saturday against UCSD and Cal State-Bakersfield to wrap up their trip to the west coast.
