SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Missouri S&T's swimming closed out its trip to California Saturday afternoon by dropping both ends of a double dual meet, losing to fifth-ranked California-San Diego and NCAA Division I foe and former Division II power Cal State-Bakersfield.
UC San Diego won the dual over the Miners by a count of 199-95, while Cal State-Bakersfield took a 186-102 decision from S&T.
In Saturday's meet, the Miners got winning performances from their 200-yard medley relay team of
Andrew Schranck (Alton, Ill./Marquette Catholic),
Aljaz Kerc (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Gimnazija Bezigrad),
Danylo Mykhailov (Khankiv, Ukraine/Sport Collegue N.S.) and
Jacob Dole (Corbin, Ky./Country Day School) with a time of 1:33.19, as well as Dole on an individual basis in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.26 seconds and 100-free in 46.48 seconds and Schranck in the 100-butterfly in 51.30 seconds.
Ethan Goldfarb (Arlington, Texas/The Oakridge School) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.31 seconds as well as the 200-breaststroke in 2:08.82.
Schranck also had a third place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.63 seconds as did Mykhailov in the 50-freestyle in 21.42 seconds, while a fourth place finishes came from
Drew Larkins (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.75 and Kerc in the 100-freestyle in 47.11 seconds. S&T had a third place finish from its 400-freestyle relay team of Kerc, Schranck, Mykhailov and Dole of 3:07.45.
Goldfarb was fifth in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:51.42, just ahead of
Matt Welsh (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette)'s time of 9:54.13. Kerc had a fifth place showing in the 200-freestyle in 1:43.60.
The Miners will host Southern Illinois in a dual meet Friday at the S&T Pool at the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building. The meet will get underway at 5 p.m.
