S&T falls to Indianapolis in opening round of GLVC Tournament

Box Score (Romeoville, Ill.) – The Missouri S&T Miners fell to Indianapolis 3-0 (11-25, 18-25, 19-25) in the opening round of the GLVC Tournament on Friday afternoon at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill. The Miners couldn't contain the Greyhound duo of Hailey Brown and Kenzie Bruggeman who combined for 27 of the team's 45 kills.

S&T got off to slow start to begin the match allowing the 'Hounds (22-9) to score the first five points of the set and eight of the first 11 to take the early lead. The Miners wouldn't get closer than four points the remainder of the set as UIndy went on a 10-2 run midway through to take a commanding 24-10 lead on its way to winning 25-11. The 'Hounds hit a blistering .478 percent (15k/4e/23ta) while holding the Miners to a negative .038 hitting percentage (5k/6e/26ta).

The second set featured six ties and three lead changes. With the set tied at 9-9 S&T used a 4-1 run to take a 13-10 lead and forced Indianapolis to take a timeout. After the timeout the Greyhounds went on a 9-1 run to grab a 19-14 advantage. Gracey Moon (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) pulled the Miners back to within 20-17 with a kill, but they wouldn't get any closer as UIndy scored the next five of the last six points to win 25-18.

S&T fell behind again early in the third stanza, but rallied to take a 10-9 lead when Krista Haslag (Linn, Mo./Helias ) and Allie Plunk (Hurst, Texas/Birdville) teamed up to block Brown. The Miners continued to hang with the 'Hounds until allowing an 8-0 run that put them down by nine. S&T tried battled back with a 6-1 run of its own to get within 23-19 on a kill from Moon, but Indianapolis scored the final two points to win 25-19.

The Miners finished the contest with an attack percentage of .156 (28k/13e/96ta) and was led by Moon with six kills. Haslag and Plunk added four kills each. Plunk also had 16 assists and nine digs.

The Greyhounds hit .380 for the match registering 45 kills against 10 errors in 92 total attempts. Brown led the way with 16 kills while Bruggeman chipped in with 11. Meghan Binkerd finished with 38 assists while Arielle Knafel had 10 digs.

S&T finishes its season with a record of 15-17 overall and 10-8 in the GLVC.
