ROLLA, Mo. – The postseason accolades continue to roll in for Missouri S&T's
Jennifer Costello (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South ) as she was named the recipient of the Great Lakes Valley Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for volleyball as announced by the conference office today.
Costello helped lead the Miners to their second straight GLVC West Division title this past fall, while also picking up first-team All-Conference and first-team AVCA All-Midwest Region honors as well. She finished third in the GLVC and 13
th nationally with 11.23 assists per set. The St. Louis, Mo., native added 59 kills, 57 blocks and nine service aces on the season, and was recognized nationally for her work in the classroom. With a perfect semester and cumulative 4.0 GPA in chemical engineering, Costello was named the Capital One Academic All-American of the Year for NCAA Division II volleyball.
During her playing career at Missouri S&T, Costello finished as the career record holder in assists with 4,361 and also holds the single season record which she set as a junior with 1,436. She had 923 digs, 270 kills, 182 total blocks and 80 service aces. Her 444.5 points scored ranks sixth in school history.
She is also a member of the Missouri S&T Honor Roll and is a three-time recipient of the Missouri S&T Scholar-Athlete award. She is also a two-time first team Capital One Academic All-American selection.
Costello is the first member of Missouri S&T's volleyball team to earn this award and the fifth in school history. She joins
Julie Meyer (Marthasville, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) (women's basketball) in 2012, Jordan Henry (men's track and field) in 2008 and 2009, Kandi Wieberg (softball) in 2007 and Becca Kueny (women's track and field) in 2006.
The GLVC announced all of its scholar-athlete awards for the fall season today.
