JOPLIN, Mo. – With a couple of last opportunities remaining to make or improve a national qualifying mark, Missouri S&T's track & field teams sent a number of individuals to the Missouri Southern Last Chance meet Friday evening. One member of each of those teams was able to do exactly that.
Ryan McGuire (Hobart, Ind./Hobart) improved his provisional mark as he went over the bar at 16-3½, while S&T got a new provisional qualifier on the women's side in
Rachel Ederle (St. Louis, Mo./Affton), who made her mark in the pole vault as she cleared 11-11¾.
Among the other men in competition,
Adriel Hawkins (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City) posted a time of 21.72 seconds in the 200-meters,
David Jones-Richerson (St. Peters, Mo./Duchesne) had a mark of 14-10 in the pole vault,
Jusean Archibald (Bridgeton, Mo./Trinity) posted a leap of 21-11¾ in the long jump and a time of 14.68 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, while
Joseph Vellella (Piasa, Ill./Southwestern) had a throw of an even 170 feet in the hammer.
The only other women's competitors in action Friday at Missouri Southern were pole vaulters
Molly Clement (Souderten, Pa./Souderten) – who cleared 11-5¾ -- and
Taylor Cipicchio (Highland, Ill./Highland), who did not clear the bar on any of her three attempts.
Missouri S&T will have competitors at a last chance meet Saturday at Emporia State before the national field is announced next week.
