S&T begins four-game homestand with visits from Quincy and Truman State

ROLLA, Mo. – Coming off its longest road trip of the season, the Missouri S&T Lady Miners return home to begin a four-game homestand on Thursday night when it hosts Quincy at 5:30 p.m. The homestand continues on Saturday afternoon when the Truman State Bulldogs come to Rolla for a 1 p.m. contest.

The Lady Miners come into the contest looking to halt an eight-game losing streak and will try to do it against a Quincy ball club that has been on fire of late winning six straight contests, after opening GLVC play with an 0-3 mark.

S&T enters Thursday's game with a record of 4-13 and is seeking its first GLVC win of the year, while the Hawks are 11-6 and 6-3 in league play. Thursday's contest features the top two three-point shooting teams in the conference with the Lady Miners ranked first at 38.5 percent while Quincy has connected on 38.1 percent of its attempts.

Janie Arand (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) leads S&T in scoring with an average of 8.1 points per game and is one of the top three-point shooters in the GLVC. Arand has scored in double figures in five of her last seven games and is hitting 44.6 percent of her attempts from beyond the arc.

Brittany Andersen (Saint John, Ind./Andrean ), who led the Lady Miners with 16 points in Saturday's loss at Maryville, is scoring 7.8 per game while Leigh-Ann Kesper (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) is scoring 7.7 per contest. Kesper also continues to lead the GLVC in blocked shots with 39.

Carly Bettencourt is the lone Hawks player averaging double figures with 10.2 points per game. She is shooting 51.2 percent from the floor with team-highs in three-point baskets with 35, assists with 68 and steals with 25. Bettencourt is shooting 47.3 percent from three-point land.

Nikia Edom is also shooting better than 50 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from long range as she averages 9.4 points a game while Erin Mennemeyer is at 8.2 per contest.

Truman State enters play this week with a record of 11-6, 5-4 in the GLVC and has won two straight heading into Thursday's contest at Drury. The Bulldogs snapped a three-game losing streak with home wins over William Jewell 61-58 on a last second shot last Thursday and Rockhurst 72-66 on Saturday.

Truman is averaging 68.2 points per game while allowing 68.6 per contest, is shooting 40.5 percent from the field, has connected on 120-of-346 attempts from beyond the arc and has made nearly 75 percent of its free throw attempts. It's outrebounding opponents by almost two per game, but is turning the ball over an average of 14 times per contest.

The Bulldogs are paced by Allie Norton and Courtney Strait who are averaging 15.4 and 14.4 points per game respectively. Michalina Tomczak is dropping in 9.9 per night and leads the team in rebounding with seven per game. Norton also leads the team in assists with 65 and steals with 15.

Saturday's contest will be Truman's first visit to Rolla since the 2005-06 campaign when it picked up a 58-48 win over the Lady Miners.
